Sean Noon of Edinburgh Road Club sprinted to victory in the Tom Simpson Memorial Junior Grand Prix

Capital cyclist Sean Noon celebrated the end of his exams in spectacular style when he powered to victory in the Tom Simpson Memorial Junior Grand Prix in Nottinghamshire, the latest round of the British Cycling Junior Series.

The Edinburgh Road Club rider had limited his competitive outings in May when studies took precedence. But he made up for lost time in outstanding fashion. Noon formed part of a six-man group that fought out the closing sprint at the end of the 65 miles, contested over 18 laps of a course he had raced earlier in the season. And he had enough in hand to see off his rivals and post the most significant win of his fledgling career.

“I thought we’d get brought back because it’s a fast course and it’s difficult for a group to stay away, so it was quite surprising,” said the delighted winner.
